Nero: A family-run café in Invalidovna, where every cup has its own story

Imagine a café where the aroma of coffee and delicious brunch dishes hits you the moment you walk through the door. Místo – the sort of place you pop into for breakfast and immediately think: “I’ve got to come back here tomorrow”. Not because it’s trendy, but simply because you want to be there. That’s exactly what Nero – coffee – brunch in Invalidovna is like, where Barbora and David Černohlávek have been living their dream since 2023.

How it all began…

The Černohláveks used to visit the predecessor to Café Nero regularly with their daughter. David thought the space had enormous potential that wasn’t being fully utilised. Then Covid struck, the café closed, and the empty premises waited for years for a new owner – and, above all, an original idea. Until one day, Barbora came up with a bold idea – why not try opening our own café?

And so Nero was born – a modern family-friendly café that quickly gained a loyal following.

„We approached the original owners, who were very accommodating. On 11 December 2023, we were able to start writing our story.“

More than just coffee and brunch

Nero isn’t your typical Prague café. Nero specialises in modern breakfast and brunch dishes with a Czech twist. The main idea is to offer guests a space for tranquillity, sharing and spending time together over good food and excellent coffee.

„We want a visit to Nero to be not just a quick stop, but an enjoyable experience,“

David explains the business’s philosophy. And they’re certainly succeeding in this. The café focuses on high-quality ingredients, homemade dishes and an atmosphere that’s welcoming to all generations – and four-legged friends too.

What can Nero actually do?

If you visit Nera, you really mustn’t miss their unique eggs Benedict – ranging from classic versions with ham or salmon to a unique vegetarian take featuring avocado. They also frequently feature a wide variety of specials on the menu. For example, they’ve now added bryndza and salmon eggs to the menu – an original recipe that combines Slovak inspiration with a modern twist.

Do you have a sweet tooth? At Nero’s, they serve some of the best pancakes in Prague – made with kefir, fluffy, light – and, above all, absolutely delicious! What’s more, visitors rave about the homemade buns here – both the classic vanilla ones and the special pistachio variety. Last but not least, we recommend trying their homemade cheesecakes in a wide variety of flavours.

Why come here of all places?

Cafés are springing up all over Prague like mushrooms after rain. Every week, a new one opens, with a new concept and a new design. But Nero isn’t just about trends. It’s mainly about sincerity and timelessness. It’s about the fact that Mr and Mrs Černohlávek do what they enjoy, and they do it well.
